NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Nashville firefighter was hospitalized as several crews worked Friday evening to contain a two-alarm apartment fire in Bellevue.

The fire was reported before 7 p.m. in building G at 865 Bellevue Apartments, in the 800 block of Bellevue Road.

According to officials, the fire began on the first floor and quickly spread up toward the roof. Construction materials in the building also made it difficult to fight the fire.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital with blood pressure problems.

Eight apartments were damaged, and four of them were nearly destroyed, officials said.

Red Cross officials said the families affected were put up in hotels or empty apartments by the apartment management.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, but firefighters said it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
