NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Three men were arrested Friday after police said they were found walking in a Metro school while in possession of a loaded handgun.

Anthony Pirtle, 22, Christopher L. Williams, 20, and Jamarin Coates, 20, were stopped by an assistant principal at Hunters Lane High School around 11 a.m.

One of the men was wearing a backpack containing the gun, but they told police they didn't know the gun was there and had picked up the backpack to "blend in."

The suspects said they were at the school to meet a friend at lunch, and police believe a student let the men enter the building at a side door.

Pirtle, of Albion Street, and Coates, of Cabana Drive, are charged with carrying a gun on school property and criminal trespassing. Williams, of Horton Avenue, is charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, carrying a gun on school property and criminal trespassing.
