It was an emotional day for students returning to Hillwood High School after the stabbing death of a classmate on Sunday.
Jonathan Culpepper, 14, a student at the school was killed along with his mother and grandmother.
On Tuesday, the schools' flag flew at half staff to remember the teen while counselors were on hand to help students deal with the tragedy and school leaders took a moment to remember Culpepper during the morning announcements.
Some of Jonathan's classmates said he was a fun, energetic kid who will be missed.
Hillwood principal Steve Chauncy said the school community will work through this tragedy together.
"Anytime you have a senseless act like this it's very disruptive to everyone and their emotions, especially young people. We just try to face it, then we go on with the school day and continue with our instruction," he said.
Police said the suspect in the homicides, Craig Garber, had self-inflicted stab wounds.
Garber remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center under police guard.
