
FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Downs officials say a total of 143 horses have been nominated to the three opening day stakes races in the 2012 meet.
The meet starts Saturday with each of the stakes races carrying a purse of $75,000. The purse for each stakes race includes $25,000 from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund
The 16th running of the Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf, a one-mile race for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up, attracted nominations of 55 horses.
Forty-seven horses were nominated to the second running of the Franklin-Simpson Mile and another 41 horses were nominated to the 15th running of the Kentucky Downs Turf Dash.
Entries for the three opening day stakes races close Tuesday. Nominations remain open through Thursday for four stakes races to be run Sept. 15.
