NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A rally in Nashville this morning was part of a national movement aimed at expectant mothers.

More than 100 cities in 45 states participated in the National Rally for Change.

The event is designed to inform mothers-to-be about their options when giving birth.

The United States ranks below many other developed countries when it comes to maternal survival rates.

"When it's needed, to have some interventions when it's needed," said Kari Jenkins Doula, a childbirth educator. "For the most part, women can give birth without a lot of medical interventions."

Rally organizers want women to consider alternatives to cesarean deliveries, like home births or those monitored by a midwife or Doula.
