NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Police have identified the mother who was hit by a car Friday night in Madison as Joanne Stauffer, 52.
Officers said Stauffer was struck at about 8:30 p.m. near the corner of East Old Hickory Boulevard and Delaware Avenue, near where she lives.
According to Metro Police Capt. Preston Brandimore, Stauffer was hit while she and her 4 year-old daughter were trying to cross the street.
Witnesses told Channel 4 News that the pair had just left a nearby hair salon.
The driver, who did not want to be identified, said that he did not see the woman until it was too late.
The collision left the car with a large dent in the hood and a cracked windshield.
In an e-mail, Brandimore said that alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the accident.
The 4 year-old was released into her father's custody after he arrived at the scene, according to Brandimore.
