Murfreesboro Council nixes plan to extend airport runway

Posted: Updated:
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The Murfreesboro Municipal Airport will have to make do with its current runway.

The City Council killed a proposal to lengthen it by 1,100 feet, according the Daily News Journal.  Federal funding would have been used to pay for the project.

Some residents who live near the airport thought it would bring more noise and lower their property values.  While some believed the longer runway would actually decrease noise.

In the Daily News Journal report, Airport Manager Chad Gehrke said the airport would have remained a small Class B-II airport even if the runway extension was approved.
