OLD BRIDGE, NJ (RNN) - At least three people are dead after a disgruntled employee opened fire at a supermarket Friday morning.
Law enforcement identified the shooter as ex-Marine Terence Tyler, 23, of Old Bridge, according to The Star-Ledger. The victims were Cristina LoBrutto, 18, and Bryan Breen, 24; all three were coworkers at the Pathmark Super Center.
In a news conference, Middlesex County prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said 12 to 14 employees were inside the store when the shooting happened around 4 a.m. ET. The store had not opened for business yet.
"The shooter left the store sometime around 3:30 in the morning and came back shortly thereafter," Kaplan said. "He entered the store firing his weapon. Two of the employees were shot and killed; the others were able to hide and escape. 911 calls were made, and police immediately arrived."
The suspect had an AK-47 with multiple ammunition magazines and a handgun. An unnamed source told WNBC that employees inside the store saw the shooter come back and locked the door, but he shot through the store's windows to get inside.
The three were found dead by first responders, and police did not fire any rounds. Authorities said 16 shots were fired by the gunman.
The motive is being investigated, although a source told WNBC there may have been an argument between him and coworkers before the shooting. The employees were there to stock shelves.
Responders on the scene moved store workers across the street to a restaurant, and they were treated outside in ambulances.
Old Bridge, NJ, is located about 25 miles outside New York City.
