SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

The Smyrna mother whose two toddlers died in a hot car earlier this month waived her preliminary hearing in the case.

Samantha Harper appeared in court in Smyrna Thursday afternoon. She has been charged with child abuse and neglect.

While in court, Harper remained quiet and didn't say much.

Police said Harper put her 2-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son in the car, and then went back inside her home and went to sleep.

Several hours later, Harper discovered her children had died in the car.

The mother's attorney said the deaths were a tragic accident and the full truth has not come out yet.

Harper remains jailed at the Rutherford County jail on a $200,000 bond.
