Bulger's Beat: Food truck festival coming to Centennial Park

Posted: Updated:

Nashville's food trucks typically spread out across town around lunchtime each day and open their mobile kitchens to legions of salivating customers.

But this weekend, more than 20 food trucks will come together to sell side-by-side in the Nashville Food Truck Association's Street Food Awards.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. And the trucks will be competing for judges' votes in categories like best taco, best barbecue and best deep fried, so save your appetite for Saturday.

B.J. Lofback will drive his truck, Riff's Fine Street Food, to Centennial Park and hope to impress.

"We like to outdo each other. That's the name of the game: try to make our truck brighter and our cuisine more interesting. But it's a win for all of us when somebody eats from a food truck," Lofback said.

It's the food phenomenon that can now be found daily across the city. Grilled cheese, waffles, burgers and ice cream are just some of the tasty options inside these trucks.

Gathering all in one place, they will be available Saturday with samples and full meals. Much like Mitt Romney and the president, these truckers really want your vote.
