Fort Campbell soldier publishes book ahead of deployment

His influences include Dan Brown, Dean Kuntz, and J.R.R. Tolkein, but this is an author in uniform, proudly wearing the stars and stripes.

"When I put on the uniform and go to work, it's easy to leave the writer at home," said Spc. Jon Pew of Fort Campbell. "When I come home and take off the uniform, it's a lot easier to pick up being a dad, a husband and a writer. There's time for both in life."
Soon deploying back to Afghanistan, Pew has just published his first book, an adrenaline-filled fantasy epic titled Transition Man.

"It talks about the struggle of a particular person," Pew explained. "Wesley Griffin is his name. He can see angels and demons and has super powers and fights to change from a bad guy to a good guy."
Even with one book published and a sequel written, Pew said his passions remain divided between writing and serving the country.

"The reason I joined the military after 9/11 was to do my part," said Pew. "Getting a chance to go do it for real is a big thing for me."
Wife Julie added their family is unwavering in support of both Jon Pew: fantasy, action, and science fiction author, and Spc. Jon Pew of the Combat Aviation Brigade.
"I think it's really important to support your husband, knowing it's a good cause," she said. "We both believe it's the right thing to do. We're there together and as a family."
"I've trained for this, I've prepared for this," Pew added. "I've actually really looked forward to this deployment for the last year."
If you'd like to get a copy of Transition Man, the book's available through Barnes and Noble,, Books-A-Million, and Little Acorns Publishing LTD.
