NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Southwest Airlines is again expanding its flight offerings from Nashville International Airport to popular destinations in the Northeast.
The airline announced Monday that it will begin offering two daily nonstop flights from BNA to Newark International Airport, just outside of New York City, beginning March 9, 2013.
This is the third time in recent months Southwest has announced new daily Nashville flights to the region, following new service to Boston Logan International, which began Aug. 12, and New York LaGuardia, which is set to begin Jan. 6.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, Southwest has only 18 daily flights out of Newark, so two of them will now leave for Nashville.
"Southwest recognizes the growth in business traffic between Nashville and New York City," said MNAA President and CEO Rob Wigington. "Over the past few months Southwest has effectively tied the major markets of New York City and Boston to Nashville, and that's a big win for our community."
