TAMPA, FL (RNN) - It was over almost as soon as it began.
The GOP began its 2012 convention Monday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum with a truncated opening session because of Tropical Storm Isaac.
At the sparsely attended opening ceremony that lasted only minutes, Reince Preibus, the Republican National Committee chairman, gaveled the convention to order with brief remarks.
Preibus asked for a moment of silence for law enforcement and those in the path of Isaac, and then he unveiled a debt clock that will run for the duration of the convention. The clock will show how much money the national debt has accrued during the week.
The RNC has rescheduled all of the main speakers into programs on the remaining nights, shortened speeches and cut some of the presentations and non-headlining speakers.
