RINGGOLD, Ga. (WRCB) -- Gone are the days where busses served as locker rooms and home games were anything but for the Ringgold High football team.
The Tigers played their first home game in more than a year Friday night, only to have it spoiled by Dalton, 21-19.
The storms of 2011 that killed eight in Catoosa County also demolished the Tigers beloved Don Patterson Stadium. On Friday, a rebuilt venue was re-dedicated to the legendary Ringgold head coach.
Emotions were high and it showed. Ringgold was called for two penalties before the second play of the game, which, oh by the way, went for a 56-yard touchdown by Dalton running back Kelvis Rhoades.
The Tigers responded by converting on fourth down when quarterback Slade Dale found Jared Spivey inside the Dalton 10 yard-line. Austin Phelps would finish the drive a few plays later on the ground. Ringgold missed the extra point, down 7-6 at the half.
Special teams led Dalton to a third quarter touchdown. Brandon Dale returned a punt into the red zone. Quarterback Cole Calfee went right back to Dale for a 24-yard touchdown pass putting the Catamounts up 14-6.
Again, Ringgold drove right down to the goaline, but this time a costly turnover. Phelps fumbled the ball, Dalton recovered and capped off a 96-yard drive with Rhodes' second touchdown of the game. Dalton led 21-6 in the fourth.
Ringgold scored twice, failing one two-point conversion and had the ball down 21-19 with 1:23 left to play at midfield.
Two holding penalties and clock management would doom the Tigers.
