Mom arrested after newborn tests positive for drugs

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville woman has been charged with child abuse after her newborn son tested positive for illegal drugs in his system.

Chelsea Marie Steelman, 23, was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury and arrested Thursday. Police said her son tested positive to the unidentified drug soon after birth at an area hospital in early July.

Police said Steelman also tested positive for the same drug.

She was jailed on a $1,000 bond.
