NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The owner of the horse that collapsed and died after winning the
Iroquois Steeplechase wants to build a memorial to those who worked to
try and save him.
Metro parks and recreation has approved a plan to install a sculpture next to the Iroquois Barn, near the equestrian center in Percy Warner Park.
Arcadius collapsed from a pulmonary aneurysm after winning the Iroquois Steeplechase in May.
The sculpture will honor the medical staff and volunteers who tried to save Arcadius' life.
The project will not be paid for by taxpayers, rather Ed Swyer, who owned Arcadius, is paying for the sculpture and will cover installation and maintenance expenses.
It should be in finished and in place by next year's Steeplechase.
