OLD HICKORY, TN (WSMV) -
Junk cars sitting at an auto repair shop in Old Hickory may be more than just an eyesore. Neighbors are complaining those cars are making a nearby busy intersection even more dangerous.
"It's a safety hazard from my point of view. I've almost got hit there, my daughter has and I am sure a lot more people have," said resident Deborah Stinson.
Stinson said the broken down cars at Cumberland Automotive Repair are causing a blind spot that makes turning into traffic difficult.
"I can't even see for the cars and the van that are parked there, so I have to ease out here past the line where you have to stop," Stinson said.
There does appear to be extra parking available for the cars next to the lot, so several neighbors contacted Metro Codes for help.
"As long as they are on his lot, he's OK," said Bill Penn, with Metro Codes. "Now, if they are just stored on the right of way - let's say he's got three or four that sit there for quite some time - then, yes, we could become involved in that."
Codes inspectors do plan to check into the cars without tags, but since the shop owner isn't violating codes the next step for neighbors would be to contact public works to make changes to the intersection.
Neighbors we talked to said they worry the dangerous intersection could hamper other potential business in the area.
