Philanthropist Ann Carell dies after short illness

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A philanthropist associated with Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt Medical Center has died.

Ann Scott Carell, 77, died Monday night after a short illness.

She and her late husband, Monroe Carell Jr., were known for their work in the community, especially in education.

They provided scholarships and helped found Pope John Paul II school in Goodlettsville and the Ensworth schools.

Mrs. Carell was on the board of trustees at Harpeth Hall school.  The library is named in her honor.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on West End Avenue.
