SODDY-DAISY, TN (WRCB)- Falling Water Elementary is celebrating 100 years of educating students on Hamilton County's northern end this fall.
Students, faculty and community members held a special flag raising ceremony with area veterans Monday morning. The school, which opened in 1912, with renovations done in 1939 is located on Roberts Mill Road, at the foot of Mowbray Mountain. The school is scheduled to close in the next few years, when a new school, combining Falling Water with Ganns Middle Valley is constructed.
Principal Lea Ann Burk praises the community support of the school, which has creaky floors and all the charm of an early 20th century school building. The school has the longest-tenured faculty in the county. "Once teachers are here," Mrs. Burk said, "they don't want to leave." There will be a community-wide dinner at the school on September 22, from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Call the school at 843-4711 for tickets or for more information.
