CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Officers responding to a panic alarm at a Clarksville house Monday morning found three young children home alone, and now their mother has been charged.

Annette Denise Drayton, 28, is charged with child neglect after police said she admitted to leaving her children, ages 9 months, 2 years and 3 years, at home while she took her 5-year-old child to school.

At some point while Drayton was away from the home, in the 1100 block of Peachers Mill Road, one of the children activated an alarm to which police, firefighters and medics responded. There, they found no adults home with the children until Drayton arrived more than 10 minutes later.

She told officers that she had been away for about 30 minutes.

Drayton was jailed on $5,000 bond, and police said her children were released to another family member for care.
