NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
If you flew in or out of Nashville this week, you might have been in line with someone who tried to take a gun onboard.
Security officials said not once, but three times in recent days, passengers tried to bring loaded guns onto an airplane. And you won't believe what else screeners have found.
The Transportation Security Administration found a loaded gun in a passenger's carry on Monday morning at Nashville International. It was the same story Sunday at the security check point. As scary as that may be, we've found it happens a lot more than you think.
Just last Wednesday, another loaded gun was found in a carry on. All three weapons were confiscated and the passengers cited.
Despite all the warnings of what you can and can't bring through airport security, it continues to be a problem.
A pink stun gun was confiscated at Nashville International last week. In February, The TSA gave us a show and tell of all the items they found in passenger's bags. They discovered everything from knives, to pepper spray, to a hockey stick even hammers.
Passengers we talked to said it's easy to forget the rules from time to time, but they find it hard to believe someone could forget something as serious as a gun.
You can pack a weapon in a checked bag as long as it's not loaded, you have the proper paperwork and you put it in a sealed container. But, if it ends up in your carry on, you could be facing criminal charges and a steep fine.
This year, 23 guns have been found at the security checkpoint at Nashville International. Last year, TSA agents found 40.
Around the country, more than 820 guns have been discovered at checkpoints so far this year.
Additional information about the proper transportation of firearms may be found on the TSA website.
