NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police are investigating a fatal shooting Friday afternoon in east Nashville.

Marcus Lawrence, 18, was found shot around 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of North 6th Street.

Police are searching for four suspects, who are believed to be riding in a gold or tan Chevy Suburban. Investigators believe the vehicle pulled up alongside Lawrence, two men got out of the car and ran behind a building before shooting at Lawrence.

Lawrence died on the way to the hospital.

Police said several people were in the area at the time of the shooting, but they believe Lawrence was targeted.

"I spoke with East Precinct detectives, and they say this is normally a very quiet area. There were several people outside at the time of the shooting, and we are talking with them and working with them to identify these four suspects and bring them into custody," said Metro Police spokeswoman Kris Mumford.

Police aren't sure of a motive yet, but gang unit detectives are looking into whether this shooting was gang-related.

This was the 35th homicide in Nashville so far this year, which is nearly even with its homicide rate from last year.
