CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A shooting Tuesday near Austin Peay State University sent one man to the hospital and was not random, according to Clarksville police.

Officers said the gunfire happened around 1 p.m. when bullets hit one man and also the side of a child learning center.

The victim was taken to Gateway Medical Center, then transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he's listed in stable condition.

Officers have one man in custody in connection with the gunfire. Kantrell Head, 21, allegedly had a stolen gun, but it's not clear why the shooting started.

University officials tell our news partners at the Leaf-Chronicle that no one involved was affiliated with the university.
