Inmate escapes second time from Bedford jail

SHELBYVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Andrew Phillip Marshall, 19, is back behind bars  after a night on the run from Bedford County deputies.

"My boys told me last night, 'Sheriff, in the morning he'll be back in jail,' and I said 'Attaboy!'" said Sheriff Randall Boyce.

Boyce said Marshall used a makeshift tool built with a jail-issued toothbrush and razor blade.

"And then he took a little cloth fabric and wrapped it around this edge, here," said Boyce.

With it, he was able to unscrew a vent cover on the wall and wiggle his way to the outside.

"He's tall and slender and he slid out through a very small hole," said Boyce.

This isn't the first time Marshall has gotten away. In July deputies said Marshall walked away from a work detail with mere days left on his sentence.

"Totally crazy for him to run off," said Boyce.

This time, Boyce is making changes to the vents and he's shipping Marshall off to prison where it might not be quite so easy to break free.

"You know the jail is the jail, but when you get to the prison, they have a lot more security than what we have here," said Boyce.

Deputies said they also believe Marshall broke into a county-owned trailer while on the run and stole items from inside.

They said more charges could soon follow.
