NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

What started as a small way to give back for a local artist has turned into something much bigger.

Brandon Reichard went to see the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and heard about the tragic shooting in Aurora the next morning.

He wanted to help. He got with some other local artists, and they were going to auction off some Batman-themed pieces and donate the money to the Aurora shooting victims.

What he wasn't expecting was more than 1,000 followers on Instagram, and 80 artists from around the world who donated other pieces to the auction, to give back.

"As a community of movie lovers and comic book lovers, we're raising awareness that our community is influenced by the heroes just as much as the villains, and we're influenced by the heroes and what they do, which is good, and we want to give good back as well," said Reichard.

More than 150 pieces were in the auction, and if you want to make a bid on the pieces that are left, you can go to batmanartauction.com. The items that didn't sell will also be on eBay.
