WARNER ROBINS, GA (WSMV) -
Brock Myers pitched five no-hit innings and Blake Osborne scored on a passed ball Friday to help Goodlettsville beat host Warner Robins, GA, 1-0 to advance to the Little League World Series.
The Goodlettsville team, which won the Tennessee state championship, will become the first Tennessee team to play at the World Series at South Williamsport, PA, since 1987.
Warner Robins was the favorite heading into this week's southeast regional tournament, but Goodlettsville held them to just one hit to win the region crown.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Most kids who play little league baseball will never be at this point," said Mike Kelly, vice president of Goodlettsville Little League. "They treat you like celebrities. Kids down here have been doing interviews. It's something special."
The team is scheduled to board a flight to Pennsylvania on Saturday and prepare for the big stage, where it will compete for the world championship beginning Thursday. The field includes eight teams from the United States and eight international teams.
