1.3 million GE dishwashers recalled for fire hazard

WASHINGTON, DC (WSMV) -

You may need to pull the plug on your dishwasher. A voluntary recall has been issued for more than 1 million General Electric dishwashers.

Certain GE dishwashers may be a fire hazard due to an electrical failure, according to GE's website.

So far, seven fires have been reported; luckily, no one was injured.

Those recalled dishwashers include GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint, between March 2006 and July 2006, then November 2006 and April 2008.

On Thursday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall in Washington, DC.

"My message to consumers is this: Stop using these dishwashers immediately, and disconnect the power supply to the unit," said Inez Tenebaum, the CPSC chairwoman.

GE is offering rebates and repairs for all recalled dishwashers.

Consumers with the tainted machine will need to verify the serial number, then call GE.

Consumers have a choice between a rebate up to $100 and a free repair.

If you need to check yours, head to GE's website here.
