TBI awards grant money to Chattanooga Crimestoppers program

NASHVILLE, TN (WRCB) -- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has awarded sixteen law enforcement agencies across the state of Tennessee with state appropriated grant money to use exclusively for  Crimestoppers programs at the local level.

TBI began taking applications in June after the 107th General Assembly appropriated a sum of $100,000 to be awarded to local governments to institute a Crimestoppers program or enhance an existing program. 

TBI was charged with administering the grant funds. All agencies who applied received $6,250. 

Below is a list of the recipients.

Weakley County Crime Stoppers
Roane County Sheriff's Office
Hendersonville Crime Stoppers Partnership
Greater Chattanooga Area Crimestoppers, Inc.
Citizens of Marshall County Crimestoppers
Crimestoppers of Nashville
Warren County Sheriff's Department
Marion County Sheriff's Department
Maury County Crimestoppers
Crimestoppers Springfield, Robertson County, Inc.
Hardin County Sheriff's Office
Rutherford County Sheriff's Office
Town of Cornersville Police Department
Williamson County Sheriff's Office
Jackson/Smith County Crimestoppers 
Smithville Police Department

The grant funds stipulated that no more than 20% of the money awarded to applicants may be used for administrative costs, supplies, equipment or advertisement. 

Eighty percent of the money awarded must go directly to rewards for the Crimestoppers program. 

The $6,250 each is receiving will be broken down into $,1250 for supplies, advertising, equipment, administrative costs and $5,000 for rewards.
