TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WRCB) -- Brooke Pancake's college career received a fitting final chapter Thursday when the Chattanooga native was named the 2012 Capital One Division I Academic All-American of the Year.

The honor goes out annually to the nation's top scholar-athlete across all sports as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Pancake is not only the first University of Alabama student-athlete to win the award, but also the first women's golfer to claim the honor.

"It is extremely humbling to be selected as the top student-athlete across all sports for my senior year," Pancake said in a university release. "My performance in the classroom was always just as important to me as my play on the course during my time at Alabama.

"I was blessed to be able to accomplish so much in both settings. It was such a privilege to earn my degree from the University of Alabama while also helping to build the Crimson Tide women's golf program into one of the nation's elite."

The final putt of Pancake's collegiate career clinched the Crimson Tide's first-ever national title at the NCAA Championships in May. The three-time All-American and four-time All-SEC performer also finished as the individual national runner-up as a senior, and won the 2012 Honda Award which is awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate golfer.

The marketing major completed her degree with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and was a three-time SEC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Pancake won the Paul W.Bryant Award as Alabama's most outstanding female student athlete as a senior, and also claimed SEC Fe mal Athlete of the Year honors.

She started her professional career at the U.S. Women's Open in June, and is currently playing in the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic this weekend.
