Crime Stoppers: Flip-flopped bandit in Red Bank

Posted: Updated:

RED BANK, TN (WRCB) -- Tonight's case proves there is a reason businesses like body shops use signs to warn you they are not responsible for the security of items left in your vehicle. There is also a good reason we offer reward cash for your good tip.

"Red Bank or where ever," explained Detective Michael Ray, "it's not the days of where we could leave our house unlocked or our cars unlocked." And as we frequently prove on Crime Stoppers, sometimes it does not even matter if the doors are locked, after all.

To the north end of Dayton Boulevard we go and the Red Bank Body Shop. It is a thriving business with what appears to be ample security. Here, there are apartments on one side, a church on the other, and razor wire lines the top of the businesses chain link fence, but none of those was enough to deter our bandit.

On June 28th, surveillance cameras caught a glimpse of a pretty bold crook looting cars parked in their locked-down lot. It was around 11:00 on that Thursday night when the thug jumped the fence. He looks to be a white male, 5'8" to 6 feet tall, dressed for the beach, really, in his flat-brimmed cap, shorts and flip-flops, but up to no good.

"He enters, I think our count was somewhere around 4 or 5 vehicles," Det. Ray said. "Some vehicles had nothing and several vehicles had a lot of items: GPS's, iPods, Cd players, CDs and all that."

Trees and the fence apparently kept him form being noticed. On some vehicles, he smashed his way in with a rock, a brick, or maybe his flashlight. On others, he simply opened the door. Get a close look at this guy. He may even be from the area and that could be your ticket to free cash, no questions asked. "We felt like he may be local just because of the way that he is dressed," said Ray. "With the flash light, with the flip flops, especially jumping over the fence."

The lesson here: whether you are parking your car at a business, at work, or at home, take your valuables with you when you go inside.

If you know who our Red Bank criminal is call Crime Stoppers at (423) 698-3333. Up to a thousand dollars reward cash is waiting and remember, a police officer may answer the phone, but you never have to reveal your identity.
