NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A former pastor was sentenced to 22 years in prison after he was convicted in May of sexually assaulting a young girl in his church four years ago.
The jury found John T. Vine guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of solicitation of a minor. The assaults on the victim began when she was 12 years old and continued until she was 13.
Even though the charges surfaced in 2008, Vine continued as pastor of Faith United Church until 2010.
The pastor of another Nashville church, where Vine had once been on staff, testified that in addition to the incident for which Vine was convicted, there was another female child who came forward and reported being sexually assaulted by him.
Vine was sentenced to 11 years for each of the aggravated sexual battery charges, to be served consecutively, and at 100 percent.
He received a sentence of five years for the solicitation charge, to be served concurrent to the 22 year sentence, according to the Office of the Davidson County District Attorney General.
