NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Metro police have arrested a student Friday who allegedly brought a gun and ammunition to Pearl Cohn High School.
Officials said the 17-year-old student, who has not been identified, had an unloaded 9 mm semi-automatic pistol in a pants pocket and 14 rounds in another pocket.
The student claimed to have purchased the gun Thursday. He is charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
Friday was the first full day of the school year in Metro Nashville Public Schools.
In a statement Friday, Metro Schools officials said the school community responded to the situation immediately, and the rest of the day continued without incident.
The district also said the student will be expelled.
