Friday's recipe (8/3/12) - Aimee Fortney's watermelon-peach and strawberry-banana batidos

Posted: Updated:

Perfect for a hot day, and so easy to make with ingredients on hand, this easy, inexpensive Hispanic treat is done with a Southern twist!

I fell in love with Batidos in Miami, and my Cuban friends taught me how to make them.  They are inexpensive and so easy to do - try it with any of your favorite fruits!  Mango, watermelon, peaches, strawberries, bananas - go for them all!

For the watermelon-peach:

2 cups very cold, chopped watermelon
1 peach, peeled and sliced (preferably frozen to keep cold)
1 strawberry, frozen
1 Tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
3 to 4 pieces of ice

In a blender, chop ice and blend all ingredients together.  Serve cold.

For the strawberry-banana batido:

2 bananas, frozen
5 strawberries, frozen
3 to 4 fresh strawberries (not frozen)
1 Tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
3 to 4 pieces of ice

Place bananas in microwave for about 25 seconds, just to loosen peel.  Remove peel and add to blender.  In a blender, chop ice and frozen strawberries and then blend all ingredients together.  Serve cold.
