Diane Black wins hard-fought GOP primary

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Freshman U.S. Rep. Diane Black of Gallatin has prevailed in her hard-fought Republican primary campaign.

Black beat Lou Ann Zelenik in a rematch of the 2010 campaign that featured saturation attack ads on TV. There is no Democrat running in the general election.

With 76% of precincts reporting, Black had 32,028 votes, 76%, to Zelenik's 14,773, or 32%.

Also, U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann of Chattanooga defeated Scottie Mayfield, an executive with the dairy company that bears his family name, and Weston Wamp, the son of the district's former congressman.

With 88% of precincts reporting, Fleischmann had 27,660 votes, or 39%. Mayfield had 22,256, or 31%, and Wamp had, 19,668, or 28%.
