NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A popular barbecue restaurant is joining the fight against hunger.
On Thursday, Neely's Barbecue delivered more than 200 meals to Second Harvest's Kids Cafe at the Watkins Park Community Center.
Neely's delivered the healthy lunches through their new lunchbox program and now the owner says it's his job, being in the food industry, to make sure local kids never go hungry.
"Growing up in our household we were very fortunate. We didn't miss a lot of meals, I guess you can tell. And when I hear about that and being in the food industry and loving food, you know, supplying meals for kids is really easy."
Thursday was only the first round of deliveries.
Neely's Barbecue is holding a charity drive at their restaurant from now until Aug 10. When a customer buys an entree, Neely's Barbecue will match the price of the entree and donate a healthy meal through Second Harvest.
