Rutherford teacher could lose license over conduct

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - The state Board of Education will decide Aug. 23 whether the revoke the teaching license of a Rutherford County teacher and coach.

Richard C. Kimberly was suspended without pay in April after the sheriff's office began investigating claims that he engaged in inappropriate contact with students.

The Daily News Journal reported that in an email from Kimberly to now-retired county schools director Harry Gill Jr., Kimberly said he exercised poor judgment in taking part in what he described as "horseplay" with a male student aboard a school bus. The boy said Kimberly restrained him and tickled him for about 15 minutes.

A second student said Kimberly pulled him over the coach's lap and playfully paddled him as the Blackman High School soccer team bus was returning from a game.
