Joelton residents can look forward to a new fire station on Old Clarksville Pike.
Officials broke ground on the new station today. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean was on hand to help celebrate the new project.
"The people here they help each other, they take care of each other and our firefighters and our paramedics here are the same," Deputy Chief Kim Lawson of the Nashville Fire Department said. "They needed a station where they spend 24 hours a day, seven days a week here to take care of the people in Joelton."
Fire officials said the new building will be energy efficient and state of the art. The new technology will help keep costs down to run the building.
The new station is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
The Joelton fire station is a part of the $20 million capital project approved by Metro in 2010. The remaining funds will help rebuild several other Nashville fire stations.
