Franklin police searching for bold credit card thief

FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

Franklin police said a woman racked up thousands of dollars on someone else's credit card, and she did it fast.

Investigators are calling it a brazen crime, as the woman is seen on surveillance video walking nonchalantly into three stores, buying thousands of dollars in merchandise with the stolen credit card.

"Criminals like this are extremely arrogant. They're flippant. They think they're not going to get caught," said Franklin Police Sgt. Charles Warner.

But police are hoping the surveillance images will help them catch the woman after she stole the card from a woman at a gas station.

First, the suspect visited the Target in Cool Springs two Saturdays ago. Then, the shopping spree moved to Macy's and the Apple Store.

The businesses were in close proximity to each other, and police said the woman wasted no time racking up $11,000 in stolen merchandise.

"She moved fast. She moved really fast, in a matter of just a short period of time," Warner said.

The woman appears to be relatively young with dark, long hair, last seen wearing what appears to be a silk off-the-shoulder blouse, dark pants and an expensive purse.

Shoppers at Cool Springs Galleria said Tuesday they were amazed that no one seemed to ask the woman for identification when she used the stolen credit card.

Annabell Gerke works in retail at a Cool Springs store.

"Our policy is 'shoplifting doesn't have a face,' so we have to obsess over everybody. It could be a little girl, you never know," Gerke said.

Police ask anyone who may know who the identity of the suspected credit card thief to call them.
