(CNN) -- Prepare to see a whole lot more of Ricky Martin.

The entertainer, who's currently acting in "Evita" on Broadway, has just inked a talent holding deal with NBC Universal's Universal Television to develop and star in his own network show in addition to appearing in specials.

The announcement was made on Monday, with Universal Television's Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria saying in a statement that Martin "is an iconic superstar who is as talented as he is popular."

"Whether he's performing before sold-out concert crowds, or starring on Broadway," Bajaria continued, "Ricky connects with his audience in a very palpable way - and we are thrilled that he will be adding TV star to his incredible resume."

Of course, this won't be Martin's first major television close-up: He appeared on the soap opera "General Hospital" in the mid-'90s.

He's also had previous stints on Broadway ("Les Miserables") and on the big screen (the 1999 horror flick "Idle Hands").
