SUMMERTOWN, TN (WSMV) -
A Hohenwald teenager died and four other teens were injured early Monday in a wreck in Lawrence County.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said speed likely caused the accident, but the investigation is still under way.
The crash killed Justin Sparkman, 18, just months before he was set to become a father.
THP investigators said the teens were in a pickup truck traveling along Route 20 in Summertown near its intersection with Railroad Bed Pike. The truck tried to turn left onto Route 20 but blew through the stop sign and didn't make the turn.
The truck hit a tree, bounced to the left and slammed into another tree before stopping.
The force of the crash threw three of the five young adults from the truck. The four injured teens are expected to survive.
All five of the victims attended Lewis County High School, and Sparkman's mother said the teens had been friends for years.
At Sparkman's home in Hohenwald, family and friends gathered Friday to support one another.
Sparkman played football for Lewis County High and dreamt of a career as a mechanic.
THP officials could decide to file charges in the case. They requested toxicology reports on all five people inside the truck, but they said there was nothing at the scene to suggest drunk driving.
However, there were also no visible skid marks on the road, so it looks like the truck hit the tree at full speed.
The driver, Keith Brown, 19, and the three other passengers, Mikal Woolridge, 19, Holly Wray, 18 and Dylan Brugmann, 20, were injured in the crash. Three of them were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment.
