NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police shut down part of Ellington Parkway late Friday night after officers found a homemade explosive in the trunk of a car.

According to an affidavit, officers found the device and other explosive materials after they stopped Andrew Seibert,19, for speeding.

The Metro Bomb Squad responded to the scene to handle the items.

Seibert was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and booked into the Metro jail on $3,000 bond.

In an email to Channel 4 News, Seibert's father, Philip, accused police of blowing the incident out of proportion.

He says that his son was not planning to damage any property or harm anyone.  He described the explosive device as bottle rockets and sparklers that had been taped together.
