Bulger's Beat: Nashville's creativity gets its Olympic moment

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

You don't have to go to London to be part of this year's Olympic experience. All you need to do is contribute in your own unique way.

That's just what some Nashville music makers have done.

Aaron Howard has earned the right to fast-forward through the Olympics coverage and just watch the commercials. He would be looking for a Coca-Cola commercial immersed in the music that he wrote.

The commercial features a female boxer, her bond with dad and, of course, that classic drink.

"She lifts her Coke, drinks her glorious Coke and then the music - the strings come in," Howard said.

He works for Nashville's Hummingbird Productions, whose Bob Farnsworth has satisfied the Coca-Cola Company with original music for years.

So the folks at Coke called again, looking for an Olympic re-fill.

"We took the video they had and wrote and scored the music around the video that they gave us," Howard said.

What once was silent - or in soda terms, flat and uncarbonated - soon became inspirational.

Catch Nashville's creative Olympic moment on Channel 4 through Aug. 12.
