MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
A police headquarters, a park and more greenways are just a few of the things that may be in the future for one of the fastest growing cities in Tennessee.
Thursday evening, city council members are meeting in Murfreesboro to discuss a five-year, nearly $264 million capital improvement plan.
According to our partners at The Daily News Journal, the plan has 93 projects total, including a new park on the city's west side, upgrades to several other parks and greenway extensions.
The fire and rescue department is also asking for $2.5 million for a training facility.
The police department wants nearly $36 million for a new headquarters. Taxpayers will foot the bill, but the chief said the department has outgrown this building that dates back to the early 1970s.
Also on the improvement list is $5.5 million in upgrades to police equipment like patrol cars and a new police precinct for the west Murfreesboro.
The transportation department is requesting the biggest share of the pie at $93 million to pay for several road projects all over town.
The five-year spending plan calls for $46 million, of the $264 million, to be spent in the first year on things like fire department upgrades, parks and roads.
