NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A Nashville teen will spend 30 years in prison for killing his 14-year-old friend in 2010.
In a Davidson County court on Thursday, Donquise Alexander pleaded guilty in the death.
Two years ago Alexander, who was also 14 at the time, shot Vincent Lewis with a rifle outside an apartment building on 6th Avenue North.
The victim, Alexander and two other friends had gathered outside an apartment building at 6th Avenue North the afternoon of July 8, 2010, investigators said.
The teens were talking and smoking marijuana at the time.
Alexander left the group, then came back with a rifle. Police said he demanded money and marijuana from the victim, and after a struggle with the gun, Alexander shot Lewis several times.
Lewis died immediately from those injuries. Alexander and the other two teens then left the location and went downtown.
A maintenance man later found Lewis' body outside a duplex and called police.
After a three-week investigation, Alexander was identified as the shooter, and his mother turned him in to police.
