NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A 39-year-old man was injured Wednesday morning after he was stabbed in the stomach.
The incident occurred at the Walmart located at the corner of Nolensville Road and Harding Place about 5:30 a.m.
Wah Wah, 27, was later arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault and unlawful weapon possession.
The victim, Darrius Griffin, received stab wounds to his torso and left leg. His injuries are not life threatening and he is expected to recover, said police.
Griffin told police that as he was walking on Harding Place toward Nolensville Pike to catch an MTA bus, someone inside a van traveling on Harding Place threw a beer bottle at him.
Griffin said when he reached the Walmart driveway, he encountered three men who were getting out of the same van. An altercation took place, during which Griffin was stabbed. Griffin was driven to the front of the store by a friend and dropped off.
Officers quickly responded to the scene. As a police sergeant was turning into Walmart, he spotted the van leaving and stopped it a short distance away.
Wah was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. Lying on the backseat of the van was a .22-caliber rifle. Wah had bullets and a magazine for the gun in his pocket, said police.
Wah, who spoke little English, said he was from Thailand. He was taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Griffin positively identified him as being one of the three suspects. Detectives are working to locate the other two.
Wah is jailed on a $120,000 bond.
