NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A 57-year-old worker was rescued after falling eight feet into a sludge tank at a waste water treatment plant in Bordeaux on Tuesday morning.
The facility is located on County Hospital Road.
Police dispatch said a subcontractor fell off a ladder around 6:30 a.m. and landed into the tank, which was mostly empty.
The worker became trapped in a small, confined area. After working for about two hours, crews used a crane to rescue him.
"His injuries are to the leg, back, neck and shoulder. He may have a leg fracture, but we can't confirm until he gets to hospital," said Nashville Fire Department Asst. Chief of Special Operations Mike Franklin.
The worker was decontaminated and rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he's hospitalized.
Metro Water officials said this is the first time a worker has fallen into a sludge tank at the facility.
