NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Metro police are investigating after they said a man entered a west
Nashville business with a gun in an attempted armed robbery Monday evening.
Several officers responded to Direct Auto Insurance, in the 100 block of White Bridge Road, where the suspect was reportedly seen with a long rifle around 4 p.m.
Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution, and officers are now searching for the suspect, who fled the business before officers arrived, according to police spokesman Don Aaron.
A portion of White Bridge Road was closed for a short time while the Metro Police Special Response Team searched the building.
Aaron said the store's manager saw the suspect approaching the business with the gun and was able to safely hide inside the business. The manager then ran to a nearby business to call police.
Police have not released a description of the suspect, but detectives are reviewing surveillance video from inside the store.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
Monday evening classes were canceled at nearby Tennessee Technology Center as a precaution, according to school administrators.
