MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
Police discovered an odd series of break-ins over the weekend in Murfreesboro. Someone broke into multiple storage units and took virtually nothing at all.
Kincaid Moving and Storage employee Jamie Clay said one of the company's units at Storage Plex on South Church Street was broken into.
"Nothing appears to be taken; the lock was cut off, and they just peek inside," Clay said. "They didn't find what they were looking for, so they closed it back."
Clay is baffled as to why someone would cut the locks off 20 units and take little of nothing.
"It makes you wonder what they were looking for," Clay said.
The burglars cut a hole in a fence on the back of the property get onto the secure property.
"We're not sure what the motive for this crime was, but in some lockers he took nothing, (and) in others small items were found to be missing," Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans said. "The most damage was from the vandalism."
Evans said investigators will be looking into the possibility that the crooks may have been looking for drugs.
An international drug smuggling ring involving steroids was busted in February after police were tipped off that Lesley Parker Junior was storing the illegal drugs inside one of the units at Storage Plex.
"This could be a simple case of someone going through storage units looking for items high in value, that they could make a quick grab and get-away with," Evans said. "Or it could be something more complex or sinister, possibly being related to the steroid case at the same complex earlier this year."
The business does have many surveillance cameras, but the burglars managed to stay out of view.
"We need to know exactly why they were doing there and what they were looking for," Evans said.
If you have any information that may be helpful to police, Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward. You can remain unanimous.
