Candidate's address has no occupancy permit

Posted: Updated:

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee House of Representatives candidate lists his address as a renovated barn-style building which has never received an occupancy permit.

According to The Tennessean, Charles Williamson said he has lived in the structure on a farm he owns since January. He is seeking the Republican nomination in the 50tn District, which has no incumbent.

Metro Nashville Codes examiner Mike Kyle said there is no record of an occupancy permit for that property and it would be unlawful to live there without one.

A person does not have to live within a district to campaign in it, but must be a resident of it by the general election.

Williamson said he wanted to get back to his bison farm and called the issue political nitpicking.
