Lincoln County Tennessee voted not to raise property taxes by more than 40 percent.
LINCOLN COUNTY, TN (WAFF) -
The commissioners in Lincoln County, Tennessee made a decision regarding property taxes.
The county commission voted down the proposal 22 to one.
The proposal was to raise property taxes more than 40 percent.
County leaders said the money was needed to fill holes in the budget.
The commissioners voted down the proposal because they didn't have an opportunity to look at the material presented by the budget committee.
"There were alternative options that they wanted to present to the county commission tonight and it did include a will tax and a smaller property increase. So I was to look at those, ask the constituents what they want, how they feel about it and then if it comes back up, we'll vote on it," said David Smith with the Lincoln County Commission.
The budget committee will now have to go back and re-look at the budget.
